Finding Peace in Friendship

There was little to be enjoyed on day three. Pain was abounding with elusive refuge, only to be taken in bite-size morsels of humbolt fog cheese and huge gulps of montepulciano wine. This was a test. Can I still find a reason to smile? I did. Because of that cheese, that wine, and the company of a beautiful person.

Stop with the Violence. Down with the Hate.

Thirteen years ago, I was a sophomore in high school. Walking through the halls of my high school in Clarkstown, New York, I remember grabbing my flute from my locker to head to band when a childhood friend told me what had happened. Everything changed after that. Community members lost family and friends, nighttime football games were cancelled because flood lights were donated to ground zero, candlelight vigils became regular occurrences.
